Kaizer Chiefs veteran defender Sfiso Hlanti is facing a bleak future at the club as he’s already entered the final two months of his contract.

According to iDiski Times, Chiefs have yet to indicate whether or not they will trigger an option they have on Hlanti’s contract.

In June 2023, Amakhosi announced that Hlanti had signed a one-year deal with an option to renew for a further year.

WHAT KAIZER CHIEFS SAID ABOUT HLANTI’S CONTRACT

“Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to announce that full-back Sifiso Hlanti has signed a one-year contract extension, with an option for a further year thereafter,” the club said at the time.

“The player, who hails from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal, came back very strongly after recovering from a potentially career-threatening injury in 2021/22 and was an integral component of Amakhosi’s defensive unit last season.”

WHAT’S NEW REGARDING HLANTI’S FUTURE

Now, the latest report is that Chiefs have not sat down with Hlanti to discuss his future, although some of the players have already been tied down.

Those players are Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Peterson and fan-favourite Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

A number of players, including Itumeleng Khune and Njabulo Ngcobo, will see their contracts expire in June, and their futures are still hanging in the balance.

“This publication understands that Amakhosi, who are expected to once again make wholesale changes in the off-season, haven’t opened any talks over exercising the option they have for the 34-year-old,” reads part of the iDiski Times report.

HLANTI IS A LEAGUE WINNER WITH BIDVEST WITS

Hlanti, 34, is in the twilight of his career, and perhaps he’d be happy to leave Chiefs or retire from football with another league medal.

He won the league with Bidvest Wits at the end of the 2016-17 season, and that was soon after he had joined them from AmaZulu.
