Ex-Orlando Pirates number one fan: ‘I don’t even watch their games!’

For decades you could not separate Mama Joy from the Orlando Pirates brand and vice-versa!

Pirates has had many prominent fans in the past but Mama Joy was considered their number one supporter by far!

But in a sudden and shocking turn of events, all of this would change back in 2021. Mama Joy put an end to 30 years of association with Pirates! At the time she stated that her move to Royal AM was influenced by wanting to stand in solidarity with their owner Shawn Mkhize. She felt as if she was almost cheated and unfairly treated with regards to the controversy surrounding their promotion. She wanted to stand with a fellow woman in football.

Fast forward three years later, and Royal AM are struggling in the DStv Premiership, while her ex-club Pirates thrive. The Buccaneers have already won an MTN8 title, seeking a Nedbank Cup title, while still being in third on the log. That keeps them alive in the race for second which secures CAF Champions League qualification. That success has seen some Sea Robbers faithful troll Mama Joy.

But speaking to KickOff.com. Mama Joy confirms she doesn’t regret leaving Pirates for Royal AM.

Pirates successful, Mama Joy has no regrets however

“These days just hearing about the name Pirates doesn’t sit well with me. That alone is proof enough that I will never go back there again. Will you go back to a boyfriend that you left, and that particular time you have a new man in your life? Never! Those who are saying I’m reconsidering my decision just wish to see me back there and it will never happen. I’m going forward.Once a Pirate, Always a Royal AM.” said Mama Joy.

Mama Joy even went further to say she doesn’t even watch Pirates matches!

Focused purely on Royal AM

“I didn’t leave Pirates in a bad way, I left to support a fellow woman. Royal AM is owned by a woman, and Orlando Pirates is owned by a man. I don’t even watch their games, I don’t even have time to switch on my TV when they are playing… I don’t wanna lie. Recently we were playing against them, did you see me there at the stadium? You didn’t, and that’s because I was not there. I didn’t go. I don’t want to watch them play. Hambile hambile mina! I don’t want even to know if they’ve bought new pots [laughs]. I’m focusing on my own home.” Said Mama Joy.
