Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena hailed his players following a 2-0 win over Nouadhibou in the Caf Champions League on Saturday evening.

Goals from Grant Kekana and substitute Thembinkosi Lorch were enough to see the Brazilians for the quarterfinals having won away from home.

‘I’m here for a very long time’ – Mokwena on his Sundowns future

Sundowns sit second on the log, behind leaders TP Mazembe with one round of matches to go in the group stages.

“Incredible effort from our team and players. I think a good performance all round in the first half with a lot of control and a lot of chances,” Mokwena said after the match.

“In the second half, we also had a lot of control and a lot of chances, and the subs were also very good and brought good energy to the pitch.

Mokwena applauds Nouadhibou for their fighting spirit

“Nouadhibou were good opponents and very competitive. The people of Nouadhibou also received us very well and we’d like to thank them for the hospitality while we’ve been in Mauritania.,” he said.

Mokwena gave praise to Nouadhibou, who made it difficult for Sundowns in the second half.

“They were worthy opponents, a difficult team. I said before the match it’s a team that hasn’t lost in the group stages at home and hasn’t lost in their league in 12 games at home. So it’s not easy to come here and get this result,” he said as per TimesLive.

Mokwena’s charges are again in action on Tuesday against AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership.
